The Application Form and the Criteria

For your application we kindly request you to fill out the Application Form and do a self-evaluation of the criteria for your establishment and hand in both, together with any other relevant documentation, to the given address. The criteria for the eco awards Namibia which form the basis of assessment are sub-divided into eight categories:

• conservation
• water management
• waste management & sewerage disposal
• energy management
• suitable & appropriate construction & landscaping
• guiding
• staff development
• social responsibility & human welfare

Each category contains a detailed catalogue of possible measures and the number of points which can be earned. Thus the assessment criteria also serve as an instructive manual for future steps. Points are awarded on different scales depending on whether the accommodation establishment is located

• in a town or settlement
• on free hold land (farmland)
• in communal area

The eco awards Namibia are intentionally modelled on the well-known quality grading system of stars: up to five (desert) flowers may be awarded.

First you evaluate your establishment yourself ad apply for the number of Flowers you are targeting at. Then an assessor visits applicants for assessment and on the basis of his/her report an independent jury determines the number of flowers due. Similar to the badge with the stars, establishments can display the flower emblem at their entrance, in their brochures and on their website.

Once established, the eco awards Namibia will prove a considerable boost to the competitive edge as holidaymakers will now be able to choose their lodge or guest farm according to the numbers of flowers. The award-winners are listed at
