Management
A Management Committee was established in 2004 to run the eco awards Namibia programme. The committee consisted of representatives from some of the participating organisations such as TASA, H·A·N, NNF and NIA. In 2007 the programme was formalised with a constitution and extended membership from Tourism related organisations including FENATA, NTB and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
The Management Committee is currently composed of the following members:
- Co-opted member - Hazel Milne
- H·A·N - to be advised (alternate: Gitta Paetzold)
- NNF - Chris Brown (alternate: Luke Sweeney)
- TASA - Basilia Shivute (alternate: Bruce Hatton)
- NIA - Nina Maritz (alternate: Kondjeni Nkandi)
- NTB - Erold Podewiltz (alternates: Ben Gaoseb, Manfred Gaeb)
- FENATA - John Ireland (alternate: Jackie Asheeke)
- DEA - Petrus Muteyauli (alternate: Olimpio Naelepo)
- DoT - Merrow Thaniseb (alternate: Olga Katjiuongua)
- NACOBTA - Ben Siyambango (alternate: to be advised)
- AAN - John Ireland (alternate: to be advised)
The Management Committee members have a wide spread of expertise in many fields and this expertise is available to assist and guide establishments, not only in qualifying for an eco award, but in any matter related to sustainable tourism and protecting the environment.
The project office is administrated by NEWS, whilst the finances are managed by the NNF.
The programme has been reliant on sponsors for funding, as the membership fees have been kept intentionally low with the aim of encouraging as many participants as possible. Unfortunately, this has led to limited promotional work and the number of participating establishments has remained disappointingly low. Nevertheless the Management Committee continue to do their best to promote the programme.
Requests for additional information, or specific enquiries can be made by e-mail to the projects' administration office (admin@ecoawards-namibia.org) or to the Chairman of the Board, Ms. Nina Maritz (mcchair@ecoawards-namibia.org).
