2009 eco media awards presented

The Eco Media Award 2009 was won by The Namibian's journalist Absalom Shigwedha. The winning article was about migratory waterbirds in northern Namibia. Second prize went to an independent journalist, Clemence Tashaya, for his article on the effects of climate change on women and children in SADC countries. Third prize was awarded to another independent journalist, Moses Magadza, for a radio report about Namibia's groundwater quantification project.

In the Publisher category, Venture Publications won first prize for outstanding reporting on environmental issues. Second prize went to SandPaper - a monthly publication of the Strengthening Protected Areas Network (SPAN) project of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. Third prize was awarded to the Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust (NaDEET).

The prizes were awarded at the Hospitality Association of Namibia's annual gala evening, held on the 27th of November 2009.
